Question:
Dr. Fallang, Can anyone help me with questions about him?

Has anyone used Dr. Fallang as their surgeon, at the Middletown hospital? Also, he is having a consultation group session next week - does anyone know what day next week?    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 22, 2001)

Hi - I have heard mixed reviews on Dr. Fallang. The biggest complaint was/is aftercare. That is why I went with Dr. Maguire at Kettering.

Hi, Dr. Fallang was my surgeon. Wonderful, wonderful man!! Surgery was 1/8/01 and I've lost 110 pounds. As far as the group consultation next week, I don't know. I believe my consultation was on a Thursday. Do you have an appointment scheduled for the consultation? I do believe that you have to have an appointment. His number is 513-424-7025. Why don't you call and verify the time? My consultation was a group session in the morning that lasted about 4 hours. Dr. Fallang really explains well the procedures and his experience. This is followed by an in depth Q and A session. He will stay until everybody's questions are answered. When I scheduled my consultation last September, I was given a date in November. While I waited, I worked on insurance approval along with his office staff. By the time I had my consultation, I already had approval. At the consultation, I was given a surgery date. This was definitely not the norm. Most people were just beginning the insurance phase. After the consultation, you are assigned a contact person in the office who works with you and the insurance company. You will meet with her and are given insurance approval info. Everyone in the office is great!! When I was starting out, they were in the process of hiring a new surgeon along with new office staff and things were hectic. Everything has calmed down and seems extremely well-organized and operates like a well-oiled machine. They really are great. As far as the aftercare... Dr. Fallang has a monthly support group. You will work with the nurse at the office on your post-op diet. He does not work with a nutritionist or dietician routinely. Also, no required psych eval-unless your insurance requires it. He really is top-notch and wonderfully experienced. Do you have any specific questions? I am not really sure what you want to know. Shelley

Oops! I forgot something...Dr. Fallang is in the database on this site. Go to the top of any page and click on "find a doc" then choose #2 "browse the list". Next, click on "Ohio". You will get a list of surgeons and Dr. Fallang is listed. If you click "view comments", you will get a list of insurance companies that have paid for members surgeries with him and then a section for comments. As far as the first post, I have never heard anything negative about Dr. Fallang. I know of one person that chose Dr. Maquire because of the aftercare, but that person is only a few weeks post op and has experienced a lot of nausea and a second admission to the hospital. I am not saying that this is surgeon related, but I do know that Dr. Fallang has an extremely low complication rate. I have had absolutely no nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, NOTHING. (except for hair loss-definitely NOT related to the "mechanics" of surgery.) Anyway, don't let one comment deter you. Research, research, research... I am sure that Dr. Maquire is a fine surgeon as well. I know that Dr. Fallang was my choice because he was compassionate, extremely experienced, and was in-network. I would definitely rate him a 10! Dr. Fallang was not my surgeon, but I went with Dr. Martin who is doing surgeries out of Fallang's office. I went to the orientation and Fallang reminded me of a used car salesman. Like he was trying to sell us something. Also, he is no longer doing surgeries out of Middletown Hospital, only Dr. Martin is. Good luck.
