Janice
October 1, 2002Submitted by Tammy E.
My friend Janice died 10 days postop.
My friend and co-worker Janice Crabtree passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2002. Janice had the WLS on September 17th and we all thought she was doing fine.
Janice went home and only complained with "trapped gas". On the Thursday (10 days after her surgery), Janice died.
Janice had her stomach stapled about 20 years ago, so this surgery was a revision for her. She complained the day of her death about severe back pains. Her husband took her to the emergency room and she was there approx. 8 hours before the Doctor came out and told her family she had passed away. They suspect Janice died from a pulmonary embolism, which we all know is the most common complication from WLS. They are performing an autopsy on Janice and I will post the exact cause of death once I know the results.
Janice was 43 years old, with a husband, and two daughters, 15 and 13. I loved Janice and will miss her so bad, both as a friend and as an employee. I had the surgery on July 15,2002. Same doctor , same hospital and have done well. I know that God knows what his plan his and works his plan because had Janice had the surgery prior to me and the same results, I'm not sure that I would have had the courage to have had my surgery. When you bow your head to pray tonight, make sure you send up a special prayer for Janice's family. God Bless..
