Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been overweight my entire life, after having heart surgery at 5. By age 6 I was over weight. I lived on children's hospital diets all my life and was an active child, but nothing worked. I was bullied and teased my entire life because of my weight. I hated people teasing me when I knew it wasn't in my control that something in my body wasn't working properly. I went through constent tests of my thyroid, and nothing ever showed up wrong.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to participate in the sport I loved my junior/senior year; having to shop in the "fat" people clothes; not being able to play with my kids the way I would have liked.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I am still recovering from surgery, will let you know. ;)
