Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Was always heavy....some time I'd loose but it came back with a fire till I was worse off! I think that is all of us! did the yoyo diets but went through the up and downs............ I stress ate and that last straw was loosing my Mom and then my Huaband was the altament......ate and cried lasted 3 years! Doctors wanted Gastric Bi-Pass and I delayed it! bad move on my part! when I did get the surgery....I fought myself ..............they say mind over matter is SOO True!! I still to this day battle myself.........AND will continue till I WIN!!!!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

sweat alot, loose the stamina to get things done, clothes never seem to fit, sitting and having the "rolls" so you look like a tire commercial my statments so true...at a local amusment park I was asked to leave a ride..while my neice was left with strangers to share the ecperance................her face........the embarrisment she felt for ME was unbearable to see on her face!!

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

putting on clothes THAT fit right from the rack..........the looks I get when I wear cloths that fit........ and being huged..........oohh having arms wrapped around you is the altament! looking into the mirror is still weird though....still wrapping my MIND around it.............still fighting wiih myself and slowly winning the battles! I THINK WE ALL have battles wether with ourselves or others not wanting us to change............... our first battle was taking the "first step".............. and thank GOD we did!!

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

my Ortho surgen and my PCP. first response " no one is cutting ME OPEN " fought this for almost 2 years everything seemed to fall into place

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

i work at a hospital so i had no problem

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

i wasn't sure what i needed or wanted til the Doc explained it more went with the whole thing.............

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

tired of limping aroung on a bad knee.........am a widow now so i need to keep myself up, i my never find a husband so it'll just be me taking care of ME

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

weight the out come........you can get hit by a bus at anytime........why not take a chance to feel better. fears, if you DON'T have them ....your already GONE so WHY NOT IF YOU CAN'T SEEM TO GET IT DONE, ASK FOR HELP! REMEMBER IT'S A " TOOL "

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

not a good reaction......but they klnow when i decide to do it i will not back down

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

did tell her i was starting classes but waiting for a surgery date to let her know more.....when i know more!

What was it like attending your first information seminar on weight loss surgery? Were you glad you attended? if so, why?
