Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been trying to loose weight for about 10yrs..I finally heard about Lite-Life and Bariatric Weight Loss Centers. I asked my Dr about the surgery but my insurance denied these centers, but they redirected me to a Dr in my area who specializes in this surgery. This was my last resort, I am 8days post op now, and I lost 10lbs,,I am so excited and ready to loose! I already feel an attitude adjustment coming on.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

For me, the worst thing about being overweight is being tired all of the time, the way my clothes fit( I always pull on my shirts because I hate them touching me). Not able to run and play with my daughter. Not fitting in the airplane seat comfortably.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

IVE ONLY LOST 10LBS SO FAR..8 DAYS POST OP

I HAVE BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD HMO..ACTUALLY, MY MEDICAL GROUP APPROVED MY SURGERY. MY DECISION WAS BASED ON HOW OBESE I WAS

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

THE FEARS I HAD WERE: WILL I WAKE UP AFTER THE SURGERY (THIS WAS MY FIRST). WILL INFECTION SET UP? WILL I WORK HARD ENOUGH TO KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF? BEFORE HAVING THE SURGERY, ASKED A MILLION QUESTIONS AND WEIGH YOUR PROS AND CONS..

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

MY HOSPITAL STAY WAS A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE. I WAS THERE FOR 3 DAYS. THE NURSES TOOK GREAT CARE OF ME..THE ONLY THING I BROUGHT WAS UNDERWEAR, TOOTHBRUSH, AND DEODERANT..FEMALES MAY WANT TO BRING SANITARY PADS- MY PERIOD STARTED EARLY DUE FROM STRESS OF THE SURGERY.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

I HAD A HIGH FEVER OF 105 FOR A FEW HOURS.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?
