Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I WOULD DIET AND DIET AND TAKE SOME WEIGHT OFF AND THAN GAIN WHAT I LOST BACK PLUS SOME. IT WAS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I COULDN'T KEEP UP WITH MY DAUGHTERS. I WOULD ALWAYS MAKE EXCUSES WHY I COULDN'T GO OR DO THINGS.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

PLAY SOFTBALL WITH MY DAUGHTERS

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I HAD A FRIEND WHO HAD IT DONE. I HADN'T SEEN HER IN A YEAR AND WHEN I SEEN HER SHE LOOKED GREAT. SO I STARTED RESEARCHING IT. MY DOCTOR HAD TOLD ME ABOUT IT BEFORE BUT I WAS NEVER REALLY INTERESTED.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FROM TUESDAY TO THURSDAY (3 DAYS). MY HOSPITAL STAY WAS NICE. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH ANYONE. THE NURSE WERE VERY SUPPORTIVE. I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO BRING ARE YOU TOOTH BRUSH, SHAMPOO AND SOAP. ALONG WITH SOME BOOKS OR MAGAZINES TO READ.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLICATIONS

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I FELT IS THIS THE LAST GOOD MEAL THAT I WILL EVER EAT. BUT THAN I EAT SO MUCH THAT I WAS STARTING TO GET SICK OF FOOD. MY HUSBAND WAS VERY SUPPORTIVE AND TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS GOING TO BE FINE.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I GO TO THE SUPPORT GROUP THAT MY DOCTORS OFFICE HAVE ONCE A MONTH. IT HELPS TO HEAR THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING THAT I AM GOING THROUGH.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I HAVE FIVE SMALL SCAR THAT ARE FADING EVERYDAY. I WAS EXPECTING BIGGER SCARS.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I HAVE GONE FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS WITHOUT TAKING ANYTHING OFF. BUT THAN THE FOLLOWING WEEK MORE THAN I EXPECTED WOULD COME OFF

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

YES, EVERYONE IS NOW TRYING TO INCLUDE ME MORE. I GET MORE INVITATIONS TO GO OUT WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
