Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I tryed just about all the diets that i could failed them alli had a 9 yr. old child at the time i heard about the surgry i had a date set up to have done someone else cancled and they said i could come in and replace them i did in the excitment to just have it done when i came to in the hosp. remmbered it was her tenth birthday she was scared but as i told her i had to get the weight off or i wouldent be around to see her grad. i dident tell her that when i talked to the DR. before surgry he warned me i could die on the table like i told him if i keep this weight i'll die anyway so if it's today or ten yearsfrom now ,when your dead your dead ,ill take my chances and belive me id do it again in a heartbeat thanks for listening topercent (and i find I stiil gain even on topercent) cleo

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

not being able to do the things you want to do like work in garden get jobs you would like even if you qualify they just tll you something like this(but my dear we filled that job the first day ,they just havent pulled our ad yet im so sorry but please check back as we sometimes have other jobs that you may qualify for)yeah! depending how heavy maybe janitor or somethng where you wont be seen and then only if they'r in a bind. you go to stores even if you ar buying cloth's for someone else the clerk will either tell you where the pluse sizes are or maybe we can find it over here in the larger sizesor ive been told we dont carry your size and i dont like to go out where people can compare my size now at 212# to my 115#i cant were any of my clothes that i did were the slacks that went around my waist wont even fit around my leg yes id do it again not to live this way but guess its hopeless

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

when i had the weight i worked 8 hr a day as a parts person came home did house stuff shopped worked in the garden played drums and sang in dance band since ive put it back on i only work part time and hardly leave the house i injured my legs 2yrs. ago and its a real effort to put this weight on them but i do sometimes they hurt when i just sitting my knees my legs my feet i sure a number on them that day twisted to try to keep from fallng should have fell would have had a sore back side but it would have healed by now anyway i do what i can when i have to whitch isent much anymore

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

A lady at the place wher i worked had it done and i was able to see i workand i could hardly wait i knew a lot of women who were over their preferd weight maybe 50# who acctuly tried to eat enought so they would be the 100#over weight we needed to be before surgery i still say thats a dumb way to go. all of us overweight people (at least some of us )know that dieting wont work we do not have willpower but we do have very acute taste buds and a slow message line to the brain to let it know weve had enough

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

had i think days in the hosp. they were very good to me and my family something to read or crossword puzzles embriordry/a gown if you like because you will need to walk the halls to get things to working right again the sooner the better i think

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

as ive said the message to my brain that im full dosent get there fast enought so i tended to overeat then throw up buy the time i had figured out how much to eat i had do some damageto it i guess but i did reach my goal weight in one year and lost another12# weighing 115 and realy had to fight not to get below that as 115# is to lite for me

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

i felt great except when i over ate the throwing up got to be a drag i still do as my stomach holds approx.90 grams but i still over eat i dont maen to but it happens and sometimes its a reaction to the food sometimes i can eat awhole egg but most of the time just the yolk the whites sometimes dissagree with me so most of the time i just eat the yolks

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

i have none i would guess if you are a people person you would need some one im such a loner that i rarely even seen my DR.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

well it is long and yes i expected it to be as it is nothing they can do about that if they are going to go in there to help you got to give m room to work hang the cosmetic side you can and will find way's to cover it dont sweat the small stuff

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

i did good untill approx 7 years ago started to gain and slowly cralwed back up in the 200 range tried Atkin, cabbage ,zone cant seem to get anything to work least of all willpower whatever that is anyway i havent found it in my body yet

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

oh you bet some totaly avoid me because ive almost put it all back on so im the fat gal again
