Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Just tired of fighting a losing battle...and always irritated.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Things missed out on. Wish I had this in highschool .. Would have had more self esteem instead of waiting till I was older to find other avenues to get it.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

hmmmm....better sex.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

Took about a month for approval.. Dr Jett's office dod most of the work.. and My work did the FMLA and STD stuff for me to be off.. HR people are great were I work.. and very supportive.. you should work here. too..ASK ME HOW!

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

Great ...

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

hmmm... maybe stock options.. and professional attitude to look better

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

Dr suggestions

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

No Fears.. I have faith in God and Jesus. And Believe that Death is a new Chapter. Not the end.

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

Close famliy and friends were against it saying that I would leave them. or not be the same. No support for a long time during the time I was wanting to do it. Had to just say I am doing this.. Take it or leave me.

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

HR was great.. and all the people around me were great.. My Manager at the time was a prick about it. and I got demoted abouta a month before surgery because I was going to take time off to have surgery done. and He had the surgery about a year before too..go FN figure.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

Was awesome.. loved it.. private room..padi extra for that.. and nurses were great.. Importnat thing to bring..music.. daytime shows and white trash trailer park shows get on my nerves.. bring music.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

Focusing on something and lots of support.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

upto 3 weeks were difficult after that I was like..ready to go back to work.. like one da I woke up and said Im ready to get on with my life. so I went back to work early.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

Hard to say other than more notices from women. I was good looking or considered good looking before. But weight makes a difference in approachability.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

about 8" .. thih to thick maybe .5" at most. its expected.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I rarely ate meat anyway..Now I eat even less. And have more patience.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Sure.. lots of people say how good you look. but if they can only see the inside and how good I feel.
