Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I had no control ,food was a comfort to me.I love to cook and love to eat what I cooked.Ive battled weight for 22 years and dieted so many times if I had counted all the pounds I had lost over the years I would be nothing but I always gained it and then some back I hate myself big and cant seem to stop mys elf I had no self control.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The clothes and the sizes I said I would never buy.the not being able to do the things I enjoyed.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

crossing my legs, not taking blood pressure medications knowing that i am going to enjoy a more healthy life style

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

a couple of people I knew haad it done and seemed to start a whole life.They were life new life had been breathed into them .It was the slap in the hand that i needed something that would control my eating habits and not me it. Initially I was scared to death.But i researched it for approx. ayear before i took the final step.I knew this would be for the rest of my life.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

After reasearching over the internet this site i knew what i needed to take to the DRS. office so i had that with me on myinitial consult and then It was about 3 weeks later BCBS OF Al. said ok

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

He was very informative and explained the procedure well and answered any questions I had and I didnt feel rushed

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

IT'S OKAY TO HAVE FEARS THEY ARE VERY REAL I WORRIED ABOUT BLOOD CLOTS. JUST TRY TO MOVE AND GET AROUND AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE AND FOLLOW YOUR DRS. INSTRUCTIONS

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

MY FAMILY WAS AGAINST THE SURGERY AT FIRST DUE TO HEARING ABOUT SO MANY COMPLICATIONS BUT SUPPORTED ME BECAUSE IT WSA MY DECISION AND I FELT IT TO BE APPROPIATE FOR ME AT THE TIME

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

4 WEEKS BUT COULD HAVE RETURNED TO WORK SOONER BUT I HAD 720 SICK HOURS ACCRUED AND I TOOK THEM. THEY ACTED LIKE THEY WERE AGAINST THE IDEA LIKE I WAS TAKING THE EASY WAY OUT BUT ITS NOT ITS FOR THE REST OF YOU LIFE AND IT GAVE ME BACK MINE

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

very small just 6 tiny incisions,the largest being about 2.5 to 3 inches.
