Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have tried several diets. lost some weight always gained it back plus extra. ate at strange times. always had to do things for family never time for me.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

not able to find a job. Also always being made fun of by children and adults

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I am starting to walk without huffing and puffing.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

A friend of mine had it done 6 yrs ago in New Haven and i thought she was crazy. I thought that it was to drastic. There had to be a way to get the weight off without going through that

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

Floch Surgical sent one letter and I was approved. Don't give up do what you need to do to get it finalized.

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

My visit was wonderful. Dr. Eurlich was great. He answered all my question and let me make the final decision. Make a list of questions and don't be afraid to ask them

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

I have health issues and I'm only 47. I missed my 2 sons childhoods because of my weight. I want to go back to work. I am in the process of getting my certificate to be a veterinary assistant. I WANT A HEALTHY LIFE. I am off of all meds except one injection of an anticoagulant. This is much better than taking a total of 8 pills a day and still feeling lousy.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

no

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

Actually I was fine until the day of the surgery. My surgeon assured me that I was going to be okay

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have 5 little holes and then one more where the drain tube was. Yes its what I expected.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

Its only been 3 weeks since my surgery so I had a 25 lb weight loss.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

yes, very supportive.
