Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I tried every diet in the world. However, nothing ever seemed to work, until my WLS. I had the surgery one month ago and have lost 32 lbs. GO ME! I am excited about my weight loss surgery and can not wait to meet the new ME!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I was just unhappy with the way I looked, SLOPPY! I want to be able to buy cute clothes and feel confident about my self. The WLS is the best choice I have ever made in my life, EVER!!!

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I go to the gym to work out. I was too embarrased before, but now I know it is a must to be successful!

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I knew a girl that had it about 5 years ago and she looked great, however, my highschool friend came in town and had the surgery and in 2 months, she lost 45 lbs. It was a reason for me to do something about myself, I was just not happy and once I left my first doctors appointment, I prayed and it was approved and I was so glad!

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

The hospital I went to was small, so it felt like you had personal care. I stayed one night. The most important thing to bring is FAITH, just pray that all goes well and that God be with you during your surgery.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

I have not had any complications, however, I follow the diet JUST LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO!

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

It was weird that you are not hungary and that has NEVER been a problem for me. Then when you are off liquids to mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs, you are so glad. Once you get food, you are excited but also scared, because you do not know what you will be able to handle. Tuna fish has been great and cottage cheese!

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

There is the staple line club in our area, however, I just talk to my friends that have had the surgery, I work out 3 or 4 days a week and I know I am going to be FINE on day, SOON!

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have 5 little scars, however, it has only been one month and the are disappearing already.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I have had success the entire time. I am very happy so far.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

My overweitht friends are jealous, I have been giving them the clothes that no longer fit and they do not act like they are excited, but hey, its not my fault I did something about it and I will be healthier and live longer!
