Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I tried many diets before deciding to have the surgery. I wanted to make all efforts first before taking this step

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to play with my children. Listening to both girls complain how other children call me names. Not being able to walk far. Self confidence level was very low

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Jazzercise and dancing

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I first found out about the surgery in Aug, 2000. I decided to have the VBG due to the risk factor.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

My stay in the hospital was 4 days.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

No complications

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I was totally exhausted. As the days past I started wondering if I'm actually going to loss weight.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I have a very caring family. All family support was awesome.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have 2 scars. One from the Open VBG and the 2nd is from the revision. Both scars look o.k.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I have been plateauing from the beginning. By 4 weeks, I had only lost 25 pounds. I again started plateauing at 12 weeks. I currently have not lost any weight in 4 weeks. I excersise 6 hours a week. My trainer has stated my body is changin.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Yes, more attention. Most people think my daughters and I are sisters.
