Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I didnt always like myself because of the way I looked. I was getting very self conscious.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to do much with my 3 yr old daughter

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Doing more things with my family. I dont know if I should add this in here but the sex is better too......

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

My older sister had the surgery 3 yrs ago. I was very leary. Thought I didnt need that.. LOL

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

My stay was okay. The staff were very helpful and kind. I was admitted at 5a on Friday and discharged as 10a on Mon.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

No complications unless you count not being able to digest whole beef a complication. No. No complications.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I was quite excited. I was very ready for it. Once I made up my mind I wanted it there were no regrets. Still none.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

None

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

Actually it is smaller than I expected. I had my gallbladder removed at the same time and Dr Oh repaired a hernia at a different site at the same time so I have 2 scars from the surgery.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Yes... Some of the overweight people are actually acting differently. I think jealousy maybe. Saying things like I should stop losing now. ( I still weigh 193)
