Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was healthy as an "ox" so the Doctors would say. No high blood pressure, no diabetes, no sleep apnea. But my mood, I would cry all the time. Being so alone and lonely. My friends would never bring up the weight, but I was always the fat friend when with them. I have struggled with weight issues since I was 19 years old. I thank GOD every day for WLS. I've been on Weight Watchers, LA Weight Loss, Atkins, SouthBeach. I have exercised to the point it hurts, but nothing.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing to me about being overweight is being looked at as a second class citizen, as though I have absolutely nothing to offer anyone. I work FT plus OT, make darn good money and pay TAXES just like skinny people do. No one has made my life easier because I am a bigger woman.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I had lap band surgery 1/29/09. I had so much trouble with it, I ended up gaining weight with it. I am planning//scheduled for a revision 02/02/12. Can't wait to be able to get into jeans again.
