Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I know longer had the will power to lose weight. I had lost 100+ pds 3 times in my life time each time to regain the weight. No matter what dite I tried ... I could stick to it but i always remaned hungery.... there for I would go back to eating an gain the weight back... plus added pounds

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Your size . not wanting to be judged on your size... No--- to little energy.... Clothes.... hard to find going to doctor wondering if I will fit in armed chairs. Booths----hopping to be sat at a table

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Tie my shoes with out the bending cutting off my air... walk and shop without getting tired.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

seen someone that had it done..... She looked GREAT and a ball of engery..... checked it out my ins. would pay for it

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

They were GREAT!!! I was 200% over my ideal weight.. The I didn't even have to do the paper work... the Doctor's office staff took care of it all.... I was called and told my surgery date and pre - op testing date...

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

He really put me at ease.... Being 200% of your ideal body weight - makes you feel... ( ARE you just going to tell me to loss the weight like so many others??) BUT the first thing he said is I can see from your record of weight loss YOU have MORE WILL POWER than most I have seen... How that took me back.... what do you mean??? YOU have lost 100+ pds --- 3 - 4 times in your life NOW THAT TAKES WILL POWER!!! ( No-doctor had ever said that to me..) He leaned forward and said -- He was sure he could help me.. JUST ONE THING---- you have one more time to loss the weight dear... THIS TIME IT WILL BE FOR A LIFE TIME!!!!

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

THIS WEB SITE--- I TALKED TO SO MANY PEOPLE.... E-MAILED.... and always the answer was the same ( I would do it again tomorrow--- if need be.)

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

LAP- RNY----- I really didn't want the down time with open.....

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

OOOHHH.... I not think anyone could have doughted as must as me... I had to come to the end of the rope and say ( God your will be done!!)

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

I could tell there were alot of fears... mostly by those that really didn't know about this surgery......BUT ALL was very supportive -- when they seen I was going to have this surgery... Matter of fact... Hubby, My Mom , 2- sister-in-laws.1-brother-in-law, my daughter who is an RN, and Pastor of my church was there in waiting room while i was in surgery,

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

DID NOT WORK

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

I LOVED Shelby Baptist Medical Center!!! The Chaplin comes on the intercom every morn and prays for the doctors and nurses and those in there care... And when the shiff change.. I would hear the nurses prayer circles... was so nice. Went in on Thursday home on Saturday= 3 days PIllOWS!!!!

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

NONE-

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

Came home on Saturday-- Saturday Night I was singing glory to God. went out with band for 3 hrs. Sunday- went to Sunday School Mon. went car shopping with hubby Tue. went baby clothes shopping- daughter is 8weeks with my 2nd G-child Wed. took G-son to doctor Thur.REST TIME -- Fri. Paid bills + singing with band.... ONLY one week post-op

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

Do Not EAT PAST FULL!!! I didn't throw-up... But man is it a sick feeling.... I did this 2-3 times... You learn real fast... EAT SLOW..Chew Chew Chew.. And to stop eating when the hungery feeling goes away.... In a min. you will fill FULL...

How far did you travel to have your surgery? (If far, how did this affect your aftercare?)

90 miles.... None

Please describe in detail what things you could and couldn't eat in the weeks and months following surgery. What foods have been off limits? Please explain how your dietary tolerance changed week-by-week, and then month-by-month since surgery.

I can eat anything....( I don't throw up ) ... But some things just does not sound good anymore... Ham--- I loved it.. now taste ..TO Salty Sweets--- I have took one bite of this or that... But I will NEVER eat a whole candy bar.. slice of cake again .. that is what got me to weighing 300#, why would I want that again. DIET- DR Pepper--- I loved them... Have Not even tried... I do not want gas to streach my tinny tummy.

What was your actvity level in the days and weeks after surgery?

I started walking again 1 week after.. 2 miles Mon-Fri and still try to walk every day.. up to 3 miles. I want to join a class with weight training... to tone up.. but this will not replace my walking

What vitamins and/or dietary supplements have you taken since your surgery?

CAL.and Milti

What side effects (nausea, vomiting, sleep disturbace, dumping, hair loss etc.) were worse for you? For how long after surgery did they persist? How did you cope with them?

VERY BLESSED... NO SIDE EFFECTS

What was the worst part about the entire bariatric surgery process?

They put air inside you as doctor does surgery... I had traped air/gas... that makes for a sick and painful tummy.... but after 1st BM.. I felt sooooo good... and no more gas pains.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I have meet 4 ( now friends) that live in are near my home town...and we stay in touch... I also come by the web site - ( this site ) to keep my files up dated.. and I go to chat - to answer ?? and maybe help someone. Being able to talk to others is very helpful....

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

six little holes ( Lap ) blue- purple in color as the color fades - it want be bad at all.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

after the first 30 pds.... ( 1- month ) I stayed the same weight a couple of weeks....( but I could tell I was loseing inches) I walked and did a little extra and the weight begain to fall off again - it took about 3 weeks.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

People that thought I was crazy at first ( most of them over weight) are now wanting to know about surgery... and If I am feeling Ok..
