Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was born prematurely at only 4lbs 8oz. From then on I gained and gained. I was obese by the time I was 6. I got teased a lot in school. I would take the long way home so I wouldn't get snowballs thrown at me or called names. I was pushed in front of a car once for no reason. I suffered from depression early on. I swallowed a handful of asprin when I was just 8. I missed a lot of school that year. I kept eating. In 4th grade we were weighted in front of the whole class. I was 121 pounds. About 20-40 pounds heavier then my peers. It hurt to be put down and my self esteem is so low. I was put on WW at the age of 12 for the first time. For the next 30 years I lost and gained more up to 395. At only 5'3" that puts a lot of stress on my body. I still have periods of depression where I don't leave the house. Large groups make me nervous. I've been on WW, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, Physician's Weight Loss Clinic, Medifast, I was a member of OA for 10 years and lost over 145 lbs and then gained 160, lost 100 then gained 115. I tried every diet I saw hoping this one would be the one. WLS is going to be the tool I need to reach my goal.
