Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I am 24 years old and all my life I have been overweight. I have tried everything from slim fast to no carb diets to meridia. Nothing worked. I would loose then gain it right back. After my children were born I just kept getting bigger and bigger.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being overweight for me is how I felt about myself. I never wanted to go out. I just wanted to hibernate pretty much. Not really cause other people would look at me but just how i felt about my self

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I COULD DO EVERYTHING BEFORE. BUT NOW I DO NOT GET SO TIRED WHEN I PLAY WITH MY KIDS.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I WORK AT ANTHEM AND I HAD A FRIEND THAT HAD IT DONE TWO YEARS AGO. SHE LOOKED WONDERFUL SO I WENT TO MY PCP AND SHE MADE MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH DR COBEANS OFFICE.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

WHEN I FIRST WENT IN I WAS SO NERVOUS, THEY GAVE ME A SETATIVE TO CALM ME DOWN. DR COBEAN THEN CAME AND GOT ME AND THEY WHEELED ME INTO THE OPERATING ROOM. THE NEXT THING I KNEW THE NURSE FROM DR COBEANS OFFICE WAS HOLDING MY HAND ASKING ME HOW I FELT AND HELPING ME BREATH DEEP TO GET MY OXGEN LEVEL UP. I THEN GOT TO GO TO MY ROOM WERE MY FAMILY WAS WAITING. EVERYONE WAS SO WONDERFUL. I WAS THERE FROM MONDAY MORNING TILL WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO BRING WOULD BE ANYTHING TO KEEP YOU BUSY.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

I DID NOT HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS EXCEPT MY TOOTH WAS KNOCKED OUT WHILE I WAS IN SURGERY.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I HAVE GONE TO A FEW SUPPORT MEETINGS WITH DR COBEANS GROUP BUT THERE MOSTLY FOR PEOPLE POST OPP SO I HAVE NOT BEEN GOING LATELY

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I JUST HAVE FIVE LITTLE SCARS THE MORE TIME GOES ON THE SMALLER THEY GET AND THE MORE THEY FADE

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I JUST HIT MY PLATEAU THIS PAST MONTH. I AM NOW SIX MONTHS IN AND I HAVE LOST 91 LBS BUT I ONLY LOST 3LBS IN THE PAST MONTH.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

YES I GET ALOT MORE ATTENTION. EVERYONE STOPS TO SAY HI AND TELLS ME HOW GOOD I LOOK. AND I DEFFINTLY NOTICE THE FLERTING MORE.
