Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been heavy my whole entire life. I have tried all sorts of diets from Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and Atkins Diet.l am not an emotional eater. A lot of times when I am not hungry I do not eat. I was very shy because I was heavy.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

My health I was at great risk of devoloping diabetes and mybe even having a heart attack. When I was in school I used to get picked on all the time.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I enjoy going for walks and hikes without getting out of breath. I like going up stairs without having to stop every few steps. I enjoy buying smaller clothes.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I first found out about the bariatric surgery from my primary care physcian. I was very interested in learning about it.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

My insurance is Connecticare they do not cover the operation so I was a self pay patient.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I go to a support group every monday at the hospital. I think it is very helpful

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have five small scars the largest is about one inch.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I have had 2 plateaus since surgery. After I had my fill for the lap banding I started losing weight again

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Yes People actually hold doors open for me now. At work customers will actually come to me.
