Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have never weighed under200 pounds since I was in the 7th grade. I have found it very difficult to walk very far without getting out of breath. I just had the surgery done on October 1 2002 and I have lost 31 pounds so far and I can see and feel a difference already.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Trouble breathing and people making fun of me everywhere I go.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

None yet it has only been a few weeks.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

My best friend had it done. I was excited about it and now I am on the road to a smaller person also.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

I had no trouble getting approved.

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

They were very informative and answered all of my questions.

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

I an tired being big.Also for my health.

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

Th Doctor helped me decide.

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

Ihad no fears.

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

They were as excited as I was and very supportive through it all.

How did your employer/supervisor react to your decision? What did you tell him/her? How long were you out of work?

I am a housewife so I don't work.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

All of the staff was great. I was in for 4 days.Just bring yourself with a good attitude and you toothbrush.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

NO

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I felt excited.

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

Take things slow and easy yu will be soar for a while.

How far did you travel to have your surgery? (If far, how did this affect your aftercare?)

Please describe in detail what things you could and couldn't eat in the weeks and months following surgery. What foods have been off limits? Please explain how your dietary tolerance changed week-by-week, and then month-by-month since surgery.

I have been able to eat almost anything I want to except spaghetti sauce.

What was your actvity level in the days and weeks after surgery?

I felt myself getting stronger and stronger with each day.

What vitamins and/or dietary supplements have you taken since your surgery?

Flintstone vitamins.

What side effects (nausea, vomiting, sleep disturbace, dumping, hair loss etc.) were worse for you? For how long after surgery did they persist? How did you cope with them?

NONE

What was the worst part about the entire bariatric surgery process?

Not being able to move around to well for the first week.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

NONE

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

It is about 1 inch long
