Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I hated the thought of every one looking at me in public. it was hard to stick to diets. i think i'v tried every diet there is.i'd lose a little and gain twice as much back.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

eating in public

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

bike riding, walking,

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I seen the free seminars in the news paper,but i wasn't gonna go that route i thought that was crazy.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

It didnt take me very long i think about 2 weeks. Advice to anyone who wants this sugery, make sure you have enough documetation of weight-loss. but dont give up.

What was your first visit with your surgeon like? How can people get the most out of this meeting?

i was exited to meet him, I knew i was on my way at getting closer to a better, healthier life. remember write down a list of questions you may have.

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

trying and trying to lose weight and I was just about to give up on myself. until i went to the weight-loss seminar and a support group the people in there were really inspireing. thats what made me to deside this is what i want to do.

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

well after doing lots of research i desided that the roux-en-y was the most common procedure. and it was permanament. so thats how i decided on what procedure i wanted.

What fears did you have about having complications or even dying from from the surgery, and what would you tell other people having the same fears now?

the fear i had was going under in the OR.

How did your family and friends react to your decision? Would you have communicated anything differently if you could now? How supportive were they after your surgery?

some were nagative and some were ok with it as long as it was for helping my health get better. family is the most important support to have. they were good support

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

my stay in the hospital was ok. some nurses were nicer than others. i was in the hospital for 3 days. i brought my pjs that was alot more comfortable than the gowns.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

none

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

i jumped up and down, hugged everyone, that was the best news i had heard in forever.

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

after coming home of course your more comfortable. i had the most sharpest pain on the left side of my tummy this pain would stop me in my tracks. the dr said thats where he worked on me more with his tools. drink as much liquids as you can. stay hydrated. remember to sip, sip, sip.

How far did you travel to have your surgery? (If far, how did this affect your aftercare?)

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

i have a berri buddy, and also support groups twice a month

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

yes

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

yes i sure do. alot of guys really looking at me now.
