Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

The more I gained the more I ate. I ate for comfort and any other excuse that came up. The larger I became the more I hated the world for not accepting me when in truth- I couldn't accept myself either.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The looks you get from people..The inability to join in life.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Wear smaller clothes, play with my kids...........HAVE A LIFE !!!!!!!

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

In a magizine--it gave me hope and terrified me.

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

I realised I was killing myself with food and I had too much to live for.

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

I had the only one that would work for me-open RYN.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

Hate hosbitals. In five days, Bring good attitude.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

None immediately. I developed an incision line hernia later-big one. I had it repaired-no big deal.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I was scared and I just stayed that way knowing that it would be worth it and it was.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I have GOD...alot of luck....and hopefully some good common sense.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

It was huge-but I had a tummy tuck when my hernia was fixed and now it is small-pencil line.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Yes-people like you better when you conform......but your real friends-and millions of people who didn't judge you to start with are very proud of you.
