Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I never had a real weight problem until my third child was born. I noticed that I felt a little "blue" and oh so tired, but I kept on doing all the things that I had to do. I tried everything. I went to a clinic in Lubbock, TX that packed you with pills of every kind from diuretics to thyroid to laxatives and appetite suppressants. I lost back down to my original weight. I didn't like that my personality changed with the meds, so I decided to use exercise only. I exercised twice a day for an hour each time. I gained, but slowly. Then I decided to go back to college to become a nurse. I didn't exercise near as much and I packed it on. I tried all the exercise tapes but not consistently. I packed it on. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, the meds made me feel better, but I didn't lose weight like the doctor said. (later I found that most don't lose weight, but gain) I kept trying different things, now I just walk. Starting the process for surgery is like a party. I can't wait to get to the next step. My family is very supportive. I can't wait to start my journey.
