Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was always losing and then gaining the weight back. 250 pounds was my all time high. My self esteem was at an all time low and I hated myself.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being happy with myself.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Buying clothes and they fit and look good. before I hated buying clothes.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

My mother found out about it and told me about it. I was willing to try anything at this point.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I have none. My Dr. has support groups in Staten Island and it is too far for us to get to when he has these groups.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

It isn't bad. I expected much worse.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

With my weight lose one month I would lose 20 pounds and the next month I would lose 2 pounds. It was frustrating.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

People notice me where before I was just the fat girl.
