Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

i have been heavy off and on all my life. i was teased all my life by kids and adults. i became very shy and my self esteme went into the toliet. i never had good men in my life because of my figure. i have been over 200 bls since jr.high. i have a funny shape because i have no butt and skinny legs but a big back and stomach. i have never felt like a real women and didn't feel sexy about myself. i always dressed like a tom boy. i cried alot but the only people that cared was my parents and god. i'm 46 now and i did it for my health. i have a great husband now and he don't care how my body looks. it's devestating to be heavy.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

nobody wanted to get to know me. even in school i had 2 friends and that was it.people have judged me all my life because of my figure. i've had a very lonely life because of it. i really don't know how i'm going to treat people when i get smaller. i've been hurt so bad thru my life. god is with me so things will look up for me!

my oldest sister had the bi-pass in the 70's and she was sick for the first year after her surgery and i told myself i rather be heavy. it changed your whole eating pattern and you had to learn what you could or couldn't eat and the incision was very long. my sister was house bound for 3 months before she could even walk outside or be some what active.

god gave me a second chance to become healthy. i had a heart cath and i found out my heart is in great shape and i have no blocked arteries. i had quit smoking a year prior and it was a blessing and i took it a ran. i am no longer on insulin or diabetic meds and i feel great.
