Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I had been a yo-yo dieter losing a large amout of weight and then gaining it back but I never lost over 65 pounds.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I felt really bad about myself and I felt I lived in a denial state most of the time.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I enjoy being active with my family doing things as simple as taking a walk or going to the gym and working out. I tell people that I am finally living.

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

I didn't have the surgery. But I did finally get tired of being depressed with my self image and I also got really scared that my life was going to be cut short because of the weight. I knew that I needed to start living a healthier lifestyle not only for myself but for my husband and my daughter. I don't want her to have to go through what I have with her weight.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

I do notice people treating me differently now. I feel that I get more attention and people take the time to get to know me better.
