Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was very self-conscious about my appearance. I felt less than attractive and felt that my colleagues saw me as less than competent because of my weight.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Physically, it was very hard to walk long distances and climb up flights of stairs. It was also difficult to go amusement parks and take plane flights.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I can go to the gym now and not feel so tired.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

My cousin had it.

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

Fairly easy.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

The nurses were wonderful as was the physical therapist. I slept there two nights. I didn't bring anytning and I didn't need anything.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

No

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I felt very anxious. I prayed a lot and I ate some of the things I knew I wouldn't be able to have after the surgery like fast food.

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

I was very sleepy and the site of the main incision was very painful.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

None

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

A lot smaller than I thought it would be.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

None

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

Yes.........they are noticing the weight loss
