Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have tried every diet under the sun. I am sad all the time. I refuse to have any pictures taken of me. I hate to look in a mirror. My worst moment was being in my little sisters wedding. I was so misrable! I really felt and still feel that I ruined her beautiful wedding with my big body. It was so hard!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I hate not being able to play with my kids. I never have any energy and see my life passing by me. I want to participate in my family life, not just be present.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

LIVE!

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

My doctor suggested it. I was scared but very excited.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I started a support group at the YMCA in Falmouth VA.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

It is pretty ugly, but I never had hopes of wearing a bikini anyway!

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

People look AT me! Men flirt, women give me nasty looks! It has been great!
