Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have battled with weight all my life. Now it is effecting my health. I never want to do anything because of my weight. I married a young man and now it really bothers me to be around his friends. I am tired of people looking at me and I am tired of not doing fun things now with my grandchildren. So now is the time to do something about it.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about be overweight is not being able to do all the things other poeple do. Not being able to wear all the neat clothes thay have for slimmer people.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Just feeling so much better and of course clothes shopping.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I first heard about it on t.v. I thought that it wouldn't be the thing for me. But I have done a little more research on it and they have changed a few things for the better.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

My stay was good I was ther for 4 days. Just some loose clothes to go home in.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

No complications. I had a very easy time and I would do it all over again if I had to. It is the best thing I could have ever done for myself.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I talked to everyone who would listen. And asked as many questions that I could.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I go to the support group from the doctors that I went too. It is very important to go to these. I really like going.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

Not bad at all. Its not that big and the doctor did a very neat job on the scar.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

You have plateaus but just hang in ther and you can alway go back on the cib.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?
