Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was very agitated with my weight. I became real upset with not being able to keep up with good hygine practices. Not being able to keep up with doing the things I did before gaining all the weight. Being discriminated against for being overweight while looking for a job.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Being tired all the time, and know that people are staring at you because you are overweight.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

N/A

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I found out about the surgery from a friend in California. Intial impression was that of the total outcome.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

Hospital stay was interesting, Having to walk slower than normal took a lot out of me. I was in the hospital a total of 4 days, during which I was never hungry. Need to bring something to do and a good pillow for when you start coughing to hold against your stomach.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

None

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I was very excited to the point that it was hard to sleep at night. Stayed up.

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

Family and friends are my support group as well as my Angel. Can't do it with out them.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I have 6 small incision scars that are currently healing. No, I only expected 5, but, the Dr. found another problem and made a 6th incision to make the repairs. All incisions are about 1 inch in length.
