Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

It's a constant battle with myself. I'm always beating myself up over the way I look and feel. I hate to go anywhere because I feel everyones eyes on me.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to run and play with my kids. Everything is a huge exersion

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I can cross my legs

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

I met a couple of people who have had the surgery. My first impression was WOW! Something that works

Describe your experience with getting insurance approval for surgery. What advice, if any, do you have for other people in this stage?

I just received my approval letter, my only advise is when you write your letter of intent, be honest.

What made you finally decide to have the surgery?

When I could no longer navigate the basement stairs to do laundry without taking a break before coming back up.

How did you decide which proceedure to have?

Lots and lots of research on both

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

The staff at Methodist were great. I went in Friday morning for my surgery and went home Sunday around noon.

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

none.

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

I think we all run the gamut of feelings, scared, excited, and everything in between.

Describe your first few weeks home from the hospital. What should people expect from this period?

you hear people say walk walk walk... sip sip sip... thats your life lol

How far did you travel to have your surgery? (If far, how did this affect your aftercare?)

about 25 miles

What aftercare support group/program do you have? How helpful/important is this?

I've got a great support with famly and friends.

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

They ar small and kind of purple right now.

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I haven't had one yet.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

people are making eye contact now.
