Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was first in denial about being overweight. I wasn't as skinny as my friends, however, I still felt attractive enough because I would get attention from the opposite sex. However, my being overweight would be the first thing people would bring up when I would get into a disagreement. My friends would say he only wants you for one thing or money. Then, I would feel that I was only invited out with my skinnier friends because they wanted someone with them that would make them look good. Clothes shopping became another issue. I could only fit in clothes from the "big girl" stores and they made me look frumpy. Finally, my health, became a huge problem. y dad passed away at an early age because of a heart attack and I had a cousin do the same. This made me realize that heart problems run in my family and being overweight only makes it worse. Then I had two brothers die within a year of each other due to complications that all started because they were overweight. I have a four year old son that I do not want to rob of the opportunity to play with outside on nice summer days, sledding in the winter, or horseplaying in the house.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being over weight is the health issues. I have high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid issues, depression, sleep apnea, etc. because of my weight. All of that leads to no energy or motivation to pan ahead for healthy meals or exercise.
