Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Food was the enemy. I couldn't control my carb eating habits. I would do everything I could to diet but I grew up in a Italian household where you cleaned your plate or else. I was seriously addicted to carbs and sweets. I also grew up with my mother restricting our food each time she was on a diet so I definitely had a love/hate relationship with food my entire life.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being overweight is the way the world perceives you which makes you start to perceive yourself that way as well. There is a definite difference in the way the general public treats overweight people which is a combination of a lack of self esteem on the overweight person's part (failure to look people in the eye, failure to greet people first, etc) and the reaction to the overweight person by the public.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

SHOPPING FOR FABULOUS CLOTHES!!!!!! I shop, I have more confidence and I get up and do karoake now on a regular basis, I go to the movies because I can now fit in the seats. The world is a much nicer place now!
