Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have always been a heavy. When I was in school everyone would say she has plenty of energy it must be "Baby weight"... well guess what the weight never left! I am an emotional eater, however my problem has never been foods, as in meals, it’s always been Junk :-| ... I would get upset and eat a bag of chips and drink a Pepsi and by the time dinner rolled around I wasn’t hungry, but before bed I would want another snack because I didn’t eat dinner. This took some time for me to realize and now I am realizing this will be my demise if I don’t correct it now as I hear dumping is one of the worse things to go through... I have done all of the fad diets from South Beach to Akins and I would lose but the moment i stopped the pounds would build back up... The reason I am having the surgery now is because I have been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney disease. Mind you I am only 31 and I received the news when I was 29. I am at stage 3 and I am hoping with this surgery I will be able to stall out the kidney transplant/dialysis process for some time…. I thought long and hard about the surgery and I feel at this point it’s the best thing for me! I spend so much time taking care of everyone else now I have to focus on me and my health ?

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

For me the worst thing was getting pants to fit my stomach and my legs.. Becuase I was sick when I was younger the majority of my weight is in stomach. I have an incision that started at the top of my belly down to the bottom. So I am not top heavy nor am I bottom heavy just the Belly.. I call it the belly of the beast lol

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I have not had the surgery
