Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I can never remember a time that I was not worried about what I was eating, when I was going to eat etc. I have always been an obese adult and have been on many fad diets. I used food to celebrate, comfort, entertain myself...etc. In the process of this journey I have had to really face my feelings, find new things that I enjoy, and focus on health and wellness!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being obese was the constant worry over my health. I had sleep apnea (very severe), extremely high blood pressure, and Type 2 diabeties. I also was very limited by what I could do physically and emotionally. There were many times that I would not participate in activities either because I could not physically do them or because I felt so poorly about myself that it was easier not to do things. I missed out on lots of fun.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I love being able to say that I completed 2 5K races....I sure did not run the entire time but I did it and my family was there to support me. I LOVE being able to be healthy and not worrying about health conditions. I also love having the confidence to try new things. I feel great about life and my future!
