Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Hi, My name is Patsy Watkins and I had gastric Bypass on May 3rd, 2011 I can actually say that this was the first day of my happy life..I weighed in at 217 during my surgery but was actually up to 229 in November of 2010 for knee surgery. I have had 9 feet surgerys because of bad joints (from moms side of family) I had the surgery in May then on Jan. 9th of 2012 I had a epileptic seizure and broke 5 teeth and had to have mouth wired shut. then I had to have 4 more repaired. I broke both my condyles and the are in the process of making me new ones. As a result keeping nutrition has been a challenge. I weigh 105 lbs. and wear sizse 0, still would not change anything on my journey to where I am...

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

not fitting into clothes, not being able to do things with my kids because my joints are so bad, and missing the little flirty looks from people even though I am very happily married...and last but not least...MY HEALTH

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Trying on fun clothes with my 25 year old daughter, always being able to smile, and not always out of breath....
