Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I kept failing at any diet I was on because I would get lax or lazy or lose motivation. It made me depressed, sad, unhealthy and very emotionally unhappy.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Lack of self esteem, poor self image and mobility issues and physical pain. Not being able to get on a plane to see my elderly mother. Not being able to walk around with my now new husband, then boyfriend. To not be able to shop without a scooter or wheelchair. To feeling the loss of hope in moving forward. Not being able to fit into desks at the university and not being mobile enough to finish my educational goals. To having to rely on others for help because it was too painful physically to do things myself. Loss of independence. Feeling tired more of the time. Lack of energy. Bad clothing! I loved fashion.. Ugly shoes...true suffering there! :)

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I can walk again and climb steps (not a ton of them but a flight of steps is doable now and I climb them once or twice a week). I am already down almost three clothing sizes and am down 60 pounds at 3 months post-op. I got the gastric sleeve and am so glad I chose this one!
