Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I started emotionally eating after my sons fathers suicide in 2003. I was also the stereotypical "daddy issues" girl.... and subsequently struggled with abusive relationships as a result of my poor self worth. Food had become my best friend. At 5'9" I had ballooned from 162 to my current weight of 272.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

My life revolves around what I eat and how uncomfortable I am in my own skin. I miss crossing my legs and painting my own toenails and just not being in pain all the time. I want to walk again without huffing and puffing and sweating. I just want to feel healthy. And maybe wear tight jeans again, too :)

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I am hoping to have my surgery scheduled sometime in November.
