Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

numerous waves of depression and very short tempered. low self esteem and admitting outwardly that i didn't like myself. Life just passed me by

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

not being able to find the energy to do anything 'fun' with my kids. children have so much energy and i find that i cant keep up

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Shave my legs. Walk and 'play' around with my boys. sit comfortably in the seatbelt in the car. tie my shoes. do yardwork. the energy level is on-going.

How did you first find out about bariatric surgery and what were your initial impressions of it?

i had heard about stomach stapling years ago but at that time my weight was bad, but not as bad as itis now. Years ago i thought the idea of stapling someones stomach was impossible. but as i got older and my weight just kept increasing. I was hesitant to believe that this procedure can solve my problem.

What was your stay in the hospital like? How long where you there? What things are most important to bring?

hoping to have surgery

Did you have any complications from the surgery? If so, how did you deal with them?

post-op

In the weeks after you got your surgery date, how did you feel? How did you cope with any anxiety you might have felt?

post-op will update later

What is your scar like? Is this what you expected?

I had a leak develop after having my staples removed and my scar had keyloided horribly. Not worried as can get it repaired when it is time for my tummy tuck!

Please describe any plateau experiences you have had since surgery.

I haven't hit a plateau yet, although feel prepared that when one comes, I can handle it. My weight loss has slowed down to about an average of 6 pounds though over the past couple months. as long as it is going down, I am satisfied.

Do you notice people treating you any differently now?

I notice that I dont get stared at. I just started a new job and the people here dont know me as anything but "normal" in their eyes. I have lost over 100 pounds in 6 months, so I feel others see me as mormal. I still see the flaws but know I am smaller and healthier then ever!
