Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

My biggest problem controlling my weight was because I couldn't exercise. I have a damaged nerve in my left leg that they tried to repair, unfortunately, it was made worse. Because of that, I was bed-ridden and basically had no use of my left leg. Therefore, I couldn't move, let alone exercise.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Feeling like I was dying. I was in constant pain all over, and I couldn't play with my granddaughters. That was heart-breaking!

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I can move. I used to have to use a cane, walker, or electric cart to get around. I no longer need any of these devices. Sure, I still have some pain, but I can move. I am on a walking regimen, and I also participate in water aerobics. I couldn't do any of this before. Oh, and I can now hold my grandchildren on my lap and play with them.
