Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have battled being overweight ever since I was a child. When I was younger I was always chubby ,as l grew into my teen's i was always dieting to become that thin person . I married in 2000 weighing my perfect goal weight of 63kgs . In 2011 I reached my highest weight of 103.5 kgs . I had gastric lap band in 2008 losing very little about 15 kgs from memory and over the years grew bigger with the band. In March 2011 I had my Lap Band removed in preparation to have RNY surgrey in August 2011. I am almost 16 months down the track and am happier than I have ever been. I have good and bad days sometimes unwell due to food choice, but you slowly learn what foods work with RNY. I now weigh 63 kgs Again and feel healthier than ever. Many people asked me had I been going to the gym and dieting, when I had told them about Surgrey I received mixed emotions and responses. No matter what anyone saids it is not the easiest option to take. It is a major decision to make with many bumps in the road. In my opinion it has changed my life only for the better.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I found the worst thing about being overweight was people judging me on my size not on who l am as a person. I always believe you cannot judge a book by it's cover you mst open the book and see what's really on the inside.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I now love the fact that I have so much more energy than before.
