Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I was born at 8 lbs 5 oz & my mom always had to separate my rolls of fat in order to wash & powder me. I was always shopping in the chubby department as a kid. From teenage days to my early 20's, I battled with the scales, not always being successful. I got pregnant with my son & thought it was a license to eat. I gained almost 100 pounds! 4 years later, I had my daughter. I had only lost 40 pounds of the first baby. I walked out of the hospital 5 days after her birth weighing 280! It was a struggle & fight that I always seemed to be losing. I weighted in at my first visit with Dr. Sean at 336...and I was almost 55 years old with pulmonary issues.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Being a poor example to my children.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Exercising. Walking. Traveling without having to get an extender for an airline seat. Seeing my great neices & nephews grow up & doing things with them.
