Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have battled with weight issues since I was a little girl. I wouldn't say much, I was just always on the thick side. I have my son at age 24 and gained about maybe 30 lbs in total during my pregnancy. I went from being 158, which is still not the right weight for my height, 5'3 to about 190-195lbs. My highest weight was 244 which I lost a substantial about of weight on my own, I went down to 178 in 2007. Now by 2013, I am back up, weighing 238lbs. I am not happy. Most of this weight was put on because of my night life activities, stress and depression. 30lbs gained from January 2011. Its a shame & I am very depressed behind gaining this weight back. August 2011 my PCP referred me for surgery. Never thought about it at all, now I can't stop thinking about it.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being overweight is just never being satisfied with the way you look, not being able to buy clothes that you really like, that would really be nice on if I was smaller. Also, getting out of breathe easily by bending to tie your shoes, walking, etc....

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I have NOT had surgery yet.
