Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been very heavy since I hit puberty around 13-14 years old. Food became an addication for me a release. I loved eating footds no matter what. Going out to eat was a prize I rewarded myself with for just doing everyday things. I never viewed my weight as an issue in regards to its effects on those around me. While it effected my abilities to date and have strong friendships in HS and even college I never allowed that to bother me to much. What really caused the change for me was having children and thinking of the fact that my weight may limit my abilities to do things with them as they get older. I also became concered that my weight may become an area of embarrasment for my children.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Being looked at as though you are lazy and slow.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Exercising, getting new clothing, being looked at in a different light.
