Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I actually did not have a problem with weight until I emigrated to the US. We were very poor and went to bed hungry a lot of times. Once in this country it was amazing how much food we had readily available and how easy it was to just go to the fridge and take what you wanted without anyone telling you no because food was scarce. So, I ate, and I ate...from free breakfast and lunch at school to snacks at any given time. My mother was so thankful for the food that she never regulated how much we ate. By the time I reached high school I was already over weight.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

the worse thing about being overweight was being tired all the time. not matter how much I slept I was tired. twenty pounds down and I already feel the difference in my level of energy and apparently I no longer snore!

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

My surgery was on 4/18/13 and so far I feel great!
