Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I have not always had a problem with my weight. I was average sized in high school and when I graduated from boot camp, I weight 127lbs and had a 24 inch waist. After the birth of my first child, I weighed 105 lbs. I got pregnant with my second child almost immediately,(they were born a year and a day apart). While I was pregnant with my second child, I gained over 125 lbs, and was unable to lose the weight after I had Tiffanie. She was born with many health problems and taking care of her took precedence over taking care of myself. Before I knew it I weighed almost 300 lbs, I knew I was gaining weight, but I didn't realize how much I was gaining until we took our pictures for the state nursing board when I graduated nursing school. I was shocked, and embarrassed!! After graduation from nursing school in 2000 I weighed 305 lbs. I have tried everything you can think of... portion control, weight watchers, medically supervised weight loss, prescription diet pills, exercise and the list goes on and on and on. I was at work one night about a year ago (May 2012) and was working on the Medical/Surgical floor, which is not my usual floor. And one of the patients I had that night was a gastric sleeve that had been performed earlier in the day. After talking with him for almost an hour, I decided that I was going to go home and start some research. I haven't stopped since that day. I have researched all the different procedures and have chosen the sleeve. My surgery date is June 28, 2013 and I am ready to start the rest of my life...
What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?
my kids... they would never say so, but I know that I am an embarrassment to them. My daughter will be a senior this year. She is in the band, and I do not want to embarrass her on senior night when all the parents stand on the field and have pictures taken. I want to be there for her, without her friends making snide remarks to her.
If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?
