Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have known about RNY surgery all of my adult life since my dad had it when I was 18. I just kept telling myself I could do it on my own. I was wrong. I would loose a few pounds and then gain it back plus some. I am now the mother of the most amazing little girl who is 4 1/2 and last March I decided that I had to do something if I wanted to be an active participant in her life.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

It shocked me how many things my weight has kept me from doing or enjoying. When I decided to have this surgery I sat down and started making a list of the things I wanted to do when I had lost the weight. I thought it would just be a few things but I just kept writing and writing.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Well I am 1 month out today so I haven't lost enough for it to be a major change in my life, but I am so excited to ride a roller coaster once the weight comes off!
