Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have gone through my life with many tramatic events (abusive father, death of my mom at age 8). Among those and many other events, I always turned to eating as a way to help cope with the pain. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression and felt like the more I ate, the better I would temporarily feel followed by guilt for eating then depression. It was a rapid cycle and I needed to do something about it.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

I believe the worse thing with being overweight was learning that I had PCOS. I also felt extremely unattractive towards others.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Since my surgery in October 2012, I have been able to become more active. I go out to my local trail and walk my two french bulldogs on nice day or go cycling. I am hoping to get a pool and do some laps and some aquatic exercises as I LOVE to swim! With weight coming off, it is making me feel better to go out more and be with friends again!
