Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have always been a little chunky in grade school. It wasn't till middle school that I started to stretch a little bit and lose a little weight. Then after a my parents went through a horrible divorce and being pretty unstable and irresponsible I lived with a few different friends. When I was 13 and 14 years old I was rebelling against myself I guess since my parents were not around too much. I met my husband at 14 and was pregnant at 15 and had my first daughter a few weeks before I turned 16. I had my first son at 17, then my second son at 18, My second daughter at 19, and my third daughter at 21. After a miscarriage. I have 5 beautiful children from my husband, and we are still together. My weight had its ups and downs of coarse most likely from being pregnant for about 6 years straight. Finally after I had my last daughter and had my tubes tided I started slimming down. Until about 1 year after I had my last daughter I started slowly picking up the weight. I was about 135 before I got pregnant and I am now at 225. I have tried different diets and eating less I even joined a gym and tried exercise. I guess I didn't take it serious enough. I am now sooo ready for this change. My youngest is now 5 years old. I need to start a healthy life for not just me, but for my kids too.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Always loving a certain type of style of clothing but never looking good when trying on outfits. Also being the heavier one out of my friends.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Just keeping up with my kids. Being able to swim laps at the rec center when I go swimming with my kids. I also love shopping for the cute clothes and trying them on and loving the way I look in them.
