Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I spent most of my adult life on the weight loss yo-yo. One diet after another....lose 10 pounds and gain back 15. Battled depression, pre-diabetes, pre-hypertensive. Avoided mirrors like the plague and spent years in denial.
What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?
The pain. I had (have) Arthritis in my feet, knees, and hips. I also had developed duodenal erosion so could no longer take the arthritis meds that kept me going. I was up to 275 pounds, depressed and going no where. Had recently graduated from Nursing School and would come home after a 12 hour shift limping and in pain.
If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?
I now have horses that I ride and take care of, I walk/jog up flights of stairs or hills (we live in TN and lots of uphill walking as we are in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains) and have MY life back. Very active now. Work long hours as a nurse and LOVE my work. Am even considering getting myself a motorcycle, something I would never have allowed myself to do at max weight.
When I had my surgery I was wearing a size 24 (tight). Now I comfortably wear a size 8 and the PAIN IS GONE!
This is by far THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE FOR MYSELF!
