Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been overweight most of my life. I am a boredom eater. When I am bored, I tend to grab at food. I suffer from Bi-Polar depression and it is finally being managed via medications and my PCP and my Psychologist, now feel like I am ready to take this next step in my journey to get this weight off. I have tried fad diets and had hardly no results at all. My weight has been a yo--yo all my life. I have researched the Gastric Bypass surgery for the past 9 years and know all about the dangers and complications that can arise from having it. I have put my faith in God that I am doing the right thing by going on and trying to get this done. I found out today, 7/29/13, that Dr Miranda has said he would like me to come in this Wednesday for a Consultation. I am praying he will find me a candidate for the surgery. Crossing fingers. :)

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being overweight is not being able to do the things with my children when they were growing up. They are 21, 20 and 17 now, and while they were growing up, I wasn't able to go out and do things with them like I wanted to do. I was too embarrassed to be seen in public, therefore I never attended any of their school functions, and if I did, I sat in the back of the room/auditorium so others didn't see me. I didn't want their classmates making fun of them because their mom was so big. I pray that I can get this surgery, so I can start fresh with my life, and make this a new start for me. I feel I am given the opportunity to relive my life through WLS and I will not let my body get out of shape again.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I am awaiting to see if I am a candidate for the surgery on 7/31/13.
